September and October

Time flies so fast! In the first few weeks of classes, we spend time talking about rules and practicing the routines. Children knows how to organize things by putting things back to where it belongs. We have been also having a lot of fun and we are busy learning so many things. We learned and discussed about the importance of families and its members and the things that we are thankful for. We have been also very busy making different arts and crafts like the family tree, a collage of their favorite food, made their own turkey, and hand print spiders with web. We also spent some time learning about letters, colours, shapes, and numbers. Children were doing coloring, tracing and cutting. Going to the gym is one of their favorite and much-awaited time of the afternoon. We have lots of fun in running, kicking and catching the ball. They also enjoyed playing tag and “What time is it, Mr. Wolf?”

Our theme for the next few weeks is going to be Halloween. We will be painting mini pumpkins and carving our own pumpkins. We will be having a Halloween party of October 30 (Friday). NO COSTUMES PLEASE.  However, the Pre-K’s can wear orange and black to our party. The children are welcome to bring a snack for themselves as they usually do. June

Wow! It’s hard to believe that we are in the month of June already and getting so close to the end of the school year!  However, we still have lots to do in Pre-K before our last day on Wednesday, June, 24th.

After we finished learning about plants in May we started talking about caterpillars and butterflies.  We have read books, made crafts and looked at pictures of these insects.  The students loved reading The Very Hungry Caterpillar over and over again.

We are still going to the computer lab with our grade 8 buddies and the students are becoming much more efficient at using the mouse and navigating the websites.  This is one of the Pre-K’s favourite activities.  They really look forward to working with their buddies and even ask for them on a regular basis.

It has been such a pleasure teaching the Pre-K’s this year!  It is wonderful to see the growth and progress made in each child throughout the school year.  Thank you to all the parents who volunteered in the classroom, your help is much appreciated.

 **Important Reminder:

·         Wednesday, June 24th – Last day of Pre-Kindergarten/Farewell Celebration

On the last day of Pre-K families are welcome to join us for a small farewell celebration in the classroom.  We will start by sharing a few things we’ve learned over the school year, students will get a certificate of completion and we will end with a little party.  I hope to see all of our families there!

Take care and have a wonderful summer!

April/May

Spring is here!  We spent the month of April learning about Spring and Easter.  We talked about plants and flowers and how to take care of them and then we planted our own Marigolds.  Each of the students got to take one home.  I hope they are taking good care of them.  We learned that plants need water and sun to help them grow.  We also learned that our Marigolds start off as a seed and then grow roots, a stem, leaves and a flower.

We have also been working with our Grade 8 buddies in the computer lab.  They have been helping us practice our alphabet sounds and teaching us how to control the mouse and the keyboard.  The Pre-K students really enjoy this special time spent with their buddies.

We began the month of May by talking about Mother's Day and making our special Mother's Day gift.  We made a flower using our handprint and our picture.

**Important Reminders:
  • Friday, May 29th - Family Fun BBQ orders due

  • Friday, May 29th - Volunteer Cash Back Forms due in office

  • Thursday, June 4th - Family Fun BBQ/Uniform Sale

March

It’s hard to believe it’s March already!  February flew by!  I guess time flies when you’re having fun and we definitely had a lot of fun in the Pre-K classroom in February.

We had a wonderful time at our Valentine’s Day party.  We played games, had snacks, made “love bugs” and handed out our Valentines that we made for each other.

It was also “I Love to Read” month in February.  The Pre-K’s really enjoyed bringing in their favourite book and having it read to the whole class.  One of their favourite activities from “I Love to Read” month was getting to go to the gym and read with the whole school.  They did such a good job staying quiet and reading “in their head” as we called it.

Another activity we did this month was read Chicka Chicka Boom Boom by Bill Martin Jr.  After we read the story some of the grade eight students came to help us make our own coconut trees.  Instead of having the whole alphabet go up our coconut trees we had every letter of our name go up.  Check them out on our bulletin board outside our classroom.

During the month of March we will continue our fun and learning with activities surrounding Lent, St. Patrick’s Day and Easter.  It will be another fun but busy month in the Pre-K classroom!

**Important Reminders:

·         Friday, Mar. 6 – Registration Packages due

·         Friday, Mar. 20 – No School

·         March 30 to April 6 – Spring Break

Thank you and take care,

Mrs. Shade

February

February will be a busy month full of fun and learning in Pre-K!
February is “I Love to Read” month!  In honour of this, I would like each student to bring in their favourite story book to share with the class.  I will take turns reading the books as the students bring them in.
Please follow this schedule:
Fri. Feb. 6th ~ Haylee

Wed. Feb. 11th ~ Sophia

Wed. Feb. 18th ~ Zahra

Fri. Feb. 20th ~ Levi

Wed. Feb. 25th ~ Semahr

Fri. Feb. 27th ~ Tony

It is also Valentine’s Day this month.  The Pre-K’s will be having their Valentine’s Day Party on Wed. Feb. 11th.  We will hand out Valentines and do Valentines themed activities.  Please have your child make seven Valentines with ONLY his/her name on it.  This will make it easier when the children pass them out as they cannot read one another’s names.

**Important Reminders:
·         Wednesday, Feb. 11 ~ Valentine’s Day Party

·         Friday, Feb. 13 ~ No School

·         Friday, Feb. 27 ~ Wear a t-shirt you can read!

Thank you,

January

Happy New Year!  I hope everyone had a restful and relaxing break spent with family and friends.  During the month of January the Pre-K’s will be learning about the season of winter.  We will be talking, reading and singing about winter, as well as making winter themed arts and crafts.

During the first week back we talked about Snow Globes and what they are.  We made our own snow globes out of construction paper, crayons and white paint.  You can check them out on our bulletin board outside the classroom.

Take care and stay warm,

Mrs. Shade
